Making room for reading again
Not finishing more books, but following a thought for longer: rediscovering the pleasure of reading.

A book has been sitting beside the bed for weeks. You want to read, but the quicker screen often wins in the evening. It may help to take reading out of the realm of self-improvement. A book does not have to increase an annual total. It can simply bring another voice into the day.
Lower the threshold
Ten pages may be enough, or even two on some days. Choose a book whose opening interests you rather than one you feel you should have read. A short story, essay or thoughtful illustrated book can be a good beginning. Leaving a book unfinished is not a defeat either.
Talk about what you read
The pleasure of reading sometimes starts in conversation. An unsettling passage, a surprising decision or a sentence interpreted differently can turn a solitary activity into an exchange. You do not need a formal book club. A recommendation with an honest explanation is often enough.
Try this
- Keep a book somewhere visible and easy to reach.
- Read a short passage without another screen nearby.
- Share one thought with someone.
Reading is time with another perspective, not a collection of completed titles.
A thought to take away
Giving reading a small place does not require changing your entire media routine. One good experience matters more than an ambitious plan. The right book may already be waiting to be opened without any pressure to perform.
